Dr. George Schatz is Morrison Professor of Chemistry at Northwestern University, and member of NU's Materials Research Center, BIMAT and NSEC Centers. He received his B. S. from Clarkson University in 1971 and his Ph.D. from Caltech in 1976. He has been at Northwestern since 1976, with research specializing in computational and theoretical chemistry, including applications to chemical and biological sensors based on metal nanoparticles, to the mechanical properties of nanomaterials, and to the structural and thermal properties of DNA and other macromolecules. Schatz is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Physical Chemistry, and is a Fellow of the AAAS and APS, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and of the National Academy of Sciences. He has published over 400 papers and three books.
